This is a guide to events on BLOOM ABROAD for people looking for language exchanges and meetups in their study-abroad city, and for people who host events. It also explains the steps for posting an event and what the BLOOM Certification mark means. Checked on 1 November 2026.
In short
On BLOOM ABROAD you can join or host events once you log in, and posting an event costs nothing. The BLOOM Certification mark appears on events from organizers who applied as partners and passed our team's review.
One login lets you join and host events
On BLOOM ABROAD events you can look for language exchanges and meetups in your study-abroad city and sign up. To hold a gathering yourself, post it from "Host an event"; posting costs nothing.
Signing up and hosting are both done with a logged-in account. Here is what you can do.
- Search: narrow down by city, date, price, category and language
- Sign up: press "I'm going" on the details page
- Get the message: the organizer's URL and message reach you by email and on My page
- Host: post a one-time event or a weekly event
- BLOOM Certification: the mark appears on events from partner organizers
How to find events and sign up
The event list is sorted with the soonest first, and you can narrow it down by city, keyword, date, price, category and language. For the date you can choose today, within 7 days or this weekend. Price bands are shown in US dollar equivalents, and in the local currency when you choose a city.
Categories include language exchange, international meetup, culture, experience, sports, workshop, student, career and volunteering. For example, let's look at what is on in town through events in Vancouver.
The sign-up flow
Press a card to see the date and time, venue, price, language, organizer and capacity on the details page. Times are in the local time of the place where the event is held. To join, log in and press "I'm going".
When an event is over capacity, people are put on a waitlist in order of arrival, and when someone drops out, people move up from the front of the waitlist. For events that take sign-ups on the organizer's site, the button takes you to that site.
The message you receive after signing up
For events where the organizer has prepared a message, the organizer's URL and message arrive by email when you press "I'm going". The same message also appears on My page and on the event details.
The email is labeled "Message from the organizer". Do not answer if the message asks for a password or payment information.
How to post an event as an organizer
The Host an event screen is divided into 3 parts: content, date and place, and how to join. The order is as follows.
- Content: enter the title, category, description, photos (up to 10), organizer name and the languages used
- Date and place: choose the country and city, then enter the date and time in local time and the venue
- How to join: choose Free, Paid or Price to be confirmed, and set the capacity and the deadline
- Check the content and post it
The first photo becomes the image on the list card and when the event is shared. URLs written in the description become links. On the event page, photos are shown in full without cropping.
Weekly events and a venue for each day of the week
If you choose "Every week" as the type of event, you can set the time and venue for each day of the week. You can register up to 10 venues and use them in your next posts too.
The date check lists the dates for 8 weeks, and by tapping a date you can change the venue for that day only or mark it as a day off. The list shows one card for the next date, and attendees pick a date before signing up.
The message for people who sign up, and managing attendance
If you enter a URL starting with https and a message of up to 500 characters in "Message for people who sign up", it is emailed to everyone who signs up. For weekly events it goes out for every date.
On the attendee page for each event you can see the number of people going and the number on the waitlist. You can also choose whether to be notified by email of sign-ups and cancellations.
Free posting and the fee rules
Posting an event costs nothing, and there is no payment step on the posting screen. The only fee an organizer enters is the participation fee that attendees pay. Choose Free, Paid or Price to be confirmed, and for Paid enter the amount and currency.
The original wording of these rules is in Legal Notice and the Listing and partnership guide. The rules BLOOM ABROAD publishes about fees are as follows.
- Browsing, searching, inquiries and applying for study abroad consultation are free for users (Operator information)
- Schools and businesses can be listed for free (Listing and partnership guide)
- Ads carry a "PR" label, and whether there are ads does not change the order or rating of free listings
What the BLOOM Certification mark means
The BLOOM Certification mark is shown on events hosted by BLOOM ABROAD partners. On a list card it appears at the top right of the photo. On the details page a band above the description says "This was posted by a BLOOM ABROAD partner."
The mark is added after the organizer applies as a partner and our team has reviewed the application. One application covers both partner registration and BLOOM Certification. The table below shows where the mark appears.
| Where | How the mark appears |
|---|---|
| Card in the event list | BLOOM Certification mark at the top right of the photo |
| Event details page | BLOOM Certification band above the description |
| Organization page in the partner list | BLOOM Certification label and the events it hosts |
What it means for attendees
With the mark, you can tell that the event's organizer is a partner that has gone through our team's confirmation. The organization's page is in the partner list, where you can also see all of that organizer's events together.
With or without the mark, the page of an event posted by an organizer states that it "does not guarantee the organizer's existence or the content". For the latest information on date and venue, let's also check the organizer's own message.
How an organization applies
On the posting screen, tick "Apply as a partner (with BLOOM Certification)". A sample of a card and details page with the mark appears for the event you are filling in, so you can check how it will look.
You can also apply from the completion screen after posting. An example of a partner organization page is the YATTA! Canada page.
Rules for joining and hosting safely
The rules for events are set out in Article 24 of the Terms of Use and on the posting and event pages. The main rules are as follows.
- Events are held only in public places anyone can enter, such as libraries, cafes and parks
- Show only the venue name and district, not the street address or room number
- Only logged-in users can host or take part
- Minors take part or host with the consent of a parent or guardian
- For an event you are concerned about, report it with "Report this event" on the details page
Our team may unpublish an event it judges to have inappropriate content or a safety concern. BLOOM ABROAD provides the place for events, and taking part and hosting are done on your own judgment and responsibility.
Look for events on ABROAD
Let's look for what is on in your study-abroad city in the event list. If you hold gatherings as an organization, try posting from Host an event.
