A student visa and an offer of a place are needed

To study in New Zealand you apply for a Fee Paying Student visa. The application needs evidence of an offer of a place in an approved course, evidence that you have enough money to live on and a scan of your passport information page, among other documen⁠t⁠s⁠.

Up to 25 hours a week in study, full-⁠time in holidays

You can work part-⁠time up to 25 hours a week while studying and full-⁠time in the holida⁠y⁠s⁠.

Funds of NZD 20,000 a year (study of a year or more)

You show you can pay living costs of NZD 20,000 for each year (study of a year or more) or NZD 1,667 for each month (study of under a yea⁠r⁠)⁠.

Ages 18 to 30, up to 12 months

Japanese citizens aged 18 to 30 are eligible and can stay up to 12 mont⁠h⁠s⁠.

Funds of NZD 4,200 or more

The fee starts from NZD 770. You show that you have at least NZD 4,200 to cover your living expens⁠e⁠s⁠.

Up to 3 months at a time

Japan is a visa waiver country, so a visit of less than 3 months needs no visitor visa. On an NZeTA you can stay up to 3 months at a time and up to 6 months within any 12-⁠month peri⁠o⁠d⁠.
